HIS Radeon HD 7970 3GB X Turbo - Overclocking

As we mentioned previously, HIS ship their X Turbo with a boost core clock higher than we were able to achieve with our GHz edition, but also improved the power circuitry along with it. We therefore did what we do best, and opened up MSI Afterburner for a bit of overclocking to see what the X Turbo could really do.

Before the card became unstable, we were able to achieve a boost core clock on the X Turbo of 1,245MHz, which represents an increase of just under 6 per cent. This isn't a massive overclock, but given that the original HD 7970 3GB GPU shipped with a 925MHz GPU frequency, it's still a fairly hefty boost. We were able to boost the memory's frequency from 1.5GHz (6GHz effective) to 1.68GHz (6.72GHz effective), a 12 per cent increase which gave the X Turbo a new memory bandwidth of a whopping 322.56GB/s. These overclocks were achieved with a 1,300mV core voltage and 1,530mV memory voltage, and we re-ran our Unigine benchmark test and 2,560 x 1,600 Battlefield 3 benchmark to assess their impact of our overclocking on the X Turbo's performance.
